End-Use Case Study
Channel Guides
Bivar, Inc., Irvine, California, manufacturer of electronic assembly hardware, has refined their GRIP-O-GIDE deep channel card guides to improve retention, withstand higher temperatures and meet DESC drawing, numbers 84101-01 through -04.
RTP Company provides the specially formulated flame retardant nylon compound to meet UL 94V-0 requirements. The material's heat deflection temperature of 400 degrees F provides resistance to heat and melting without supporting combustion.
The compound provides rigidity and strength in the bifurcated mounting prongs that firmly retain the card guides in place. This rigidity is also important for the mechanical insertion of the guides into metal plates or channels and, along with the design of the guide, ensures that the board will remain in place even in high vibration and shock applications.
The compound's natural lubricity and the GRIP-O-GIDE's tapered funnel entry ramps on each end allow for easy card insertion without special tooling. These ramps are used in various combinations to obtain virtually any length desired.
