Printer Take-up Hub
- ABS PermaStat® Material Dissipates Static Charge
Thanks to the recommendation of molder Vaupell Industrial Plastic of Seattle, Washington, an RTP Company glass-filled ABS PermaStat® compound is the material of choice for this batch take-up hub from Intermec Corporation of Everett, Washington.
The hub, an accessory for bar code printers, allows small batches of bar code labels to be printed in roll format. After printing, a static charge was passed to the operator via the metallic wire bail that strips the rolled media from the hub. Since Vaupell was aware of PermaStat's permanent, non-sloughing antistatic characteristics, they suggested the material.
Intermec Corporation selected PermaStat 603, a 20% glass-filled, ABS resin which dissipates the charges allowing the operator to safely handle the wire bail without receiving a shock. It provides dimensional stability so print media is properly introduced into the hub to prevent misalignment, wrinkling and excess noise and is economical compared to its metal counterpart.
