RTP Company Develops Compounds Featuring "Chroma-shift" Colors

WINONA, MINNESOTA, USA — RTP Company, a global leader in specialty compounding, has perfected a range of precolored compounds for injection molding and sheet extrusion that display geometric metamorism, commonly referred to as the "chameleon effect". This effect is achieved with a precise combination of pigments and dyes that cause a color to change when viewed at different angles.

These high-chroma colors produce a shimmer effect in thermoplastic compounds. When viewed at one angle, the part looks blue. Turn it slightly, and the part looks purple or maroon.

Achieving this special effect with precolored compounds offers processors major advantages over using a concentrated masterbatch, where it's very difficult to predict how these pigments in a masterbatch format will interact with the rest of the formulation. RTP Company has the expertise to formulate it right the first time and account for other factors impacting the color, like the resin system, additives, and environmental lighting.
