RTP Company Leads The Way In Compounding Corterra™

WINONA, MINNESOTA, USA — RTP Company, a global leader in specialty compounding, announces the addition of a new resin system to its compound product line. The RTP 4700 Series compound family is based on polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) such as Shell Chemicals' Corterra™.

Currently, this resin is used in the fiber (clothing and carpet) and film industries. RTP Company plans to capitalize on PTT's superior balance of properties and low cost by developing compounds for engineered thermoplastics applications.

The new RTP 4700 Series balances the physical properties of PET with the processing characteristics of PBT. The compounds offer a cost effective alternative to PET and PBT without sacrificing strength, stiffness, and high heat deflection temperatures. The compounds also offer the basic polyester benefits of dimensional stability, electrical insulation, and chemical resistance.

Compounds based on Corterra™ have excellent colorability and mold with better surface finishes than PBT. Key markets include existing PBT or PET resin and alloy applications where aesthetics, cost, and/or performance are insufficient.
