RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

Under the direction of the North America Color Lab Manager and in coordination with the Plant Manager, oversees the facility color lab ensuring its effective operations and alignment with company goals and expectations.

  • Plans and coordinates the activities required to support the production of colored products within the facility
    • Directs supervision of color lab personnel
    • Allocates resources to meet schedules
    • Provides training and leadership
    • Implements manufacturing specifications and guidelines for color products into production
  • Reviews color formulations for production and development
    • Reviews for compliance with guidelines
    • Reviews for efficiency and reproducibility
    • Reviews release criteria and process window
  • Directs color development within the facility
    • Applies the guidelines for color development established by the Color Division Management
    • Reviews and approves new matches
    • Reviews new colorants as needed
    • Interfaces with customers as required
  • Maintains color information and data
    • Directs and provides leadership in the Color Match software use
    • Maintains the production and development physical standards and supporting documentation
    • Provides necessary documentation to support production and development color as needed
    • Maintains retain system of standards and targets
  • Interfaces with sales, customer service, and customers as needed, and has direct interface with other RTP Company color labs to ensure effective operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • 4-year related degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of color matching experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership / supervisory role
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • This position requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, respirators, face shield, hearing protection, Tyveksuit, gloves, etc.
  • Exposure to noise levels above the OSHA action level may be possible
  • Proper personal safety equipment is to be used while performing this job as pointed out by plant safety procedures
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock and non-hazardous chemical agents
