RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the planning, control, and integration of electrical activities and the development of project deliverables to ensure the success of their project. The individual designs power and lighting systems for commercial and industrial facilities. The Electrical Engineer utilizes his or her creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment to anticipate and solve engineering problems, determine program objectives and requirements, and develop standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.

  • Gains a full understanding of the project objective, scope, deliverables, budget implications, and other factors that impact design activities
  • Establishes design criteria for specific projects
  • Takes responsible lead in the design and detailing of electrical systems
  • Manages the procurement of all necessary equipment related to project electrical needs
  • Manages the development of construction/equipment installation documents and project deliverables
  • Performs analysis and design calculations and is responsible for the design and drawing activities
  • Reviews and evaluates computer program and manual calculations for technical accuracy and compliance with established design criteria
  • Coordinates electrical activities with the project team during the course of the overall project
  • Performs field surveys and develops the electrical requirements for each given project/li>
  • Prepares estimates of probable costs for electrical equipment and installation. Participates in preparation of project specifications
  • Performs periodic design reviews; ensures designs follow specifications, codes and regulations, and project requirements. Ensures technical and quality standards are maintained
  • Reviews shop drawings for compliance with project requirements and documents

Education and Experience

  • Must have a BS in Electrical Engineering or related field and 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering. Master Electrician License preferred
  • Must have working knowledge of AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Outlook and discipline specific software packages such as SKM Power Analysis and AGI-32 Lighting Analysis
  • Must have strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code and general building codes
  • Must have expertise in engineering systems and related design principles
  • Must have awareness of other disciplines and the interrelationship of the various elements of design
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must have strong organization and planning skills
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time, with overnight travel
