RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

This position is responsible for the management of all phases of facilities related capital and expense projects from project evaluation to close and sustaining operations. This includes business case development, planning, design, and oversight of the entire process for the addition, replacement, reconfiguration and alteration of equipment, buildings, structures, and other facilities related items and systems. The Facility Engineer has responsibility for the selection and performance of vendors who perform building renovations and alterations, furnish and install equipment, perform design services, construction services and project management.

The Facilities Engineer is responsible for lifecycle analysis and planning including leading facilities condition assessment efforts and maintaining a capital requirements database to assure the reliability of buildings and systems. The Facilities Engineer is expected to recommend ways to improve operations and the physical work environment to support optimized health & safety, optimized productivity, and optimized cost.


  • Analyze material and labor costs, set procedures and standards, and review bids
  • Develop, obtain and organize information required to complete a project
  • Coordinate the preparation of schematic designs, drawings, calculations, and make material and equipment selections
  • Review and recommend project options and alternatives
  • Develop project description, budget and schedule and prepare business case requests as necessary for submission for project approvals and to secure funding
  • Recommend the contractors, suppliers, and equipment vendors
  • Prepare scopes of work, contracts and purchase requisitions for approval (including specifications, warranty requirements, maintenance manuals, spare parts, delivery requirements, vendor start-up and training where required)
  • Conduct routine project meetings, prepare and distribute meeting minutes
  • Schedule for construction and equipment deliveries
  • Conduct periodic coordination meetings with the contractor(s) and stakeholders
  • Assure adherence to the specifications, code requirements and quality standards
  • Maintain, track and provide an accurate accounting of project budget
  • Prepare and submit change requests as necessary
  • Execute projects through to completion, start-up, and commissioning
  • Responsible for installation/commissioning acceptance documentation and preparation and revision of site procedures and as-built drawings
  • Handle certain administrative tasks, such as developing and preparing performance (KPI) reports, project updates to stakeholders, regulatory filings, and maintenance of job files
  • Respond to emergency situations or other urgent issues involving the facility
  • Enforce safety and health guidelines amongst employees and contractors

Skills and Abilities

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience within facilities supporting corporate offices, laboratory research activities, and manufacturing

  • This position requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, respirators, face shield, hearing protection, Tyvek suit, gloves, etc.

    This position is based in Winona, MN and will require global travel to other RTP Company locations depending on varying business needs. In addition, the position requires schedule flexibility to accommodate early morning, evening, and/or weekend work on occasion to manage the progress of projects.
