RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing all assigned compounding activities in a safe and effective manner consistent with all HSE policies, general guidelines, and RTP Company’s overall business direction. This position directly supervises managers responsible for production, maintenance, engineering, and warehousing. This individual must work and promote servicing the customer, operational excellence, and product consistency with cost and asset optimization.

  • Directs and coordinates daily operations of the manufacturing plant
  • Oversees all levels of staff activity and performance
  • Develops processes to increase productivity and enhance performance
  • Ensures company policies and procedures are followed at all times
  • Monitors equipment and ensures that they are in good working order; repairs or replaces plant equipment as needed
  • Develops schedules for production lines
  • Communicates expectations for plant safety and environmental performance
  • Investigates and documents all plant incidents
  • Authorizes work and signs permits
  • Determines requirements and assigns workers to production lines
  • Reviews process test results and determines changes to be made
  • Participates in customer and ISO audits
  • Investigates and resolves all customer complaints
  • Assists in the plant interview and selection process
  • Conducts performance reviews and recommends raises and promotions
  • Leads disciplinary meetings for direct reports
  • Supports the RTP Company Quality Policy through a continued commitment to delivering on-time, defect-free products which meet or exceed customer requirements
  • Ensures that all activities and objectives of each operating department comply with the highest employee and process safety standards and are consistent with good manufacturing practices and customer needs
  • Establishes overall goals and objectives that support RTP Company’s vision and goals
  • Assists in setting and monitoring departmental and individual goals and objectives
  • Promotes universal involvement and continuous improvement in safety, quality, and customer service
  • Drives cost reduction initiatives consistent with RTP Company’s business direction
  • Ensures that the goals and objectives of the functional mangers are fully supported by all operations

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in operations, engineering, or related field is preferred
  • Must have prior manufacturing experience, plastics industry or related preferred
  • Must have a minimum of 2+ years prior leadership and management experience
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Position is a hands-on leader with visibility on the floor. As a result, may require the wearing of PPE equipment, such as safety glasses earl protection, hard hat, safety shoes
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock and non-hazardous chemical agents
  • Employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous materials as defined by the OSHA Hazard Communication standard
