RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

The Quality Assurance Mechanical Testing Lab Technician is responsible for performing testing according to RTP Company test methods including Tensile, Flexural, Impact, Shrinkage, Die-cut Tensile, Die-cut Tear, Shore-A and Shore-D Hardness on molded specimens provided by the QA Lab Molding Technician. This person is also trained to back-up the QA Lab In-Process Technician and can perform required Ash Content, Moisture Content, Melt Flow Rate, Pellet Cleanliness Inspection, Specific Gravity, Pellet Count, Pellet Quality, HDT, and Sample Prep for Conductivity performed on both In-Process samples and Finished Products. Some limited calculations will be required, as is excellent attention to detail. The individual will follow the lead of the Quality Assurance Manager to perform additional assignments as needed.

  • Performs required testing of RTP Company plastics in both pellet and molded forms
  • Selects appropriate test method for samples provided
  • Carefully loads automated test equipment
  • Communicates test results to appropriate person(s) and accurately documents test results on worksheets
  • Collaborates with the QA Manager and other personnel to work towards the highest quality product and test results

Education and Experience:
  • High School degree preferred
  • Prior related lab experience is preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time
  • Occasional travel to other locations may be required
