RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

This position is responsible for assuring product specification is achieved through testing and data collection. Protecting the customer from non-conforming material is a critical importance. Typical testing includes a variety of mechanical properties, along with conductivity, flame retardant, ash, moisture, flow, and contamination inspections. These individuals work in accordance with the RTP Company Quality Policy, which commits to defect-free products that exceed customer’s expectations.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs required testing of plastics in both pellet and molded forms
  • Follows drying, mold/press set-up, and specimens’ required guidelines
  • Record and analyze data in a computer and on paper to ensure specification is met and continues to be controlled
  • Communicate test results to appropriate person(s) and accurately document test results
  • Hold/reject non-conforming material when it is not in specification
  • Assist in troubleshooting product quality issues
  • Troubleshoot basic lab equipment issues; Lab equipment includes scales, ovens, molding press, small extruders, microscope, etc.
  • Complete improvement projects as assigned by the QA manager
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment, follow standardized work process, and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment
  • Must have strong mathematic comprehension
  • Must be able to work independently with limited or no supervision
  • Must be dependable and have excellent attendance
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have a positive attitude
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English

Education and Experience:

  • High school degree or equivalent preferred
  • Previous quality assurance lab experience is preferred
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel
