RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.
The Research and Development Color Engineer is responsible for support of all color requests. They work in accordance with the RTP Company Quality Policy through their willingness to innovate and desire to improve color technologies. The Color Engineer also supports RTP Company’s locations worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical support for colored products
- Develops, evaluates, and improves coloring and masterbatch technologies
- Strives to innovate the coloring technology of plastics by developing creative solutions applicable in the marketplace
- Assists production scale up of color and masterbatch products
- Develop plastic processing and property enhancing additives
- Support color transfers to other RTP Company facilities throughout the world
- Other duties as assigned

- Must demonstrate the ability to be the subject matter expert on the company CRM and SharePoint systems

- Must be able to analyze and troubleshoot as problems or changes arise; strong problem-solving and system analysis skills

- Adept at queries, report writing, and presenting findings is required
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of data and information with attention to detail and accuracy is required
- Must possess knowledge of plastic processing technologies
- Understanding of the coloring methods is ideal
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on an occasional basis
- Passing score on the RTP Company Color Test

Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Composites, Polymer, or Chemical Engineering required
- Technical knowledge of color and plastic additives is preferable
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Specific vision abilities may require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
- This position requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, respirators, face shield, hearing protection, Tyveksuit, gloves, etc.
- Exposure to noise levels above the OSHA action level may be possible
- Proper personal safety equipment is to be used while performing this job as pointed out by plant safety procedures
- Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock and non-hazardous chemical agents
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles
- Occasionally exposed to hazardous materials as defined by the OSHA Hazard Communication standard
