Environmental Manager Position – Winona, MN

RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.


Specialist who coordinates the management of an organization’s environmental performance.  Must be able to identify and resolve environmental problems from a holistic perspective, acknowledging that the political, social, legal and economic aspects of issues are as important as those pertaining to science and technology.  An important element of the role is to provide training to staff at all levels to ensure that all members of the workforce recognize their own contribution to improved environmental performance.


To ensure all environmental programs, procedures, training, work practices and controls are implemented.  This position is responsible for identifying applicable environmental regulations and risks while interacting with Operations, Planning, Engineering, and EHS Corporate to implement acceptable systems in order to ensure compliance and conformance to EHS Policies and Management Systems. 


  • Manage the development and implementation of an environmental management system (ex. ISO 14,001).
  • Assure all environmental permits are in place and that conditions of permit are maintained (ex. Air, Discharge Water, Solid waste, Hazardous Waste, etc.)
  • Develop environmental strategies that ensure corporate sustainable development.
  • Coordinate all aspects of resource use, pollution reduction, waste management, environmental health, risk assessment and employee involvement.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
  • Develop pollution control, pollution prevention and recycling programs.
  • Audit and report on environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Identify, assess and reduce environmental risks and financial costs.
  • Keep abreast of environmental legislation and good practice.
  • Raise awareness at all levels of the organization of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice.
  • Manage relations with senior management and internal staff. 
  • Train staff at all levels in environmental issues and responsibilities.
  • Participate in environmental education and research.
  • Submit applicable written environmental reports.


  • Bachelor of Science degree in the area of Environmental Studies or related field.
  • Five years of professional environmental experience with a strong knowledge of Environmental regulations and some Health and Safety regulatory knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of Environmental Management Systems.

Desired Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft office products, primarily the use of work processing, environmental database applications, presentation and spreadsheet software.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with wide variety of audiences (operators, management, engineering, etc.)
  • Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM)
  • Direct experience in developing and implementing environmental stewardship programs.
  • Direct experience in developing and implementing waste minimization plans and programs.
  • Direct experience with environmental data systems.
  • Ability to develop and make presentation before various audience sizes at all levels of the organization.
