Environmental Specialist – Winona, MN

RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

RTP Company is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist. This position is responsible for supporting the management of environmental regulations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and recommending risk mitigation measures as related to environmental safety at RTP Company plants.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Provide organizational and functional support for policies and programs related to environmental safety to include, but not limited to, training curriculum and documentation to meet regulatory and insurer requirements, industrial hygiene testing, waste management/minimization, and air and water quality permitting/monitoring
  • Assure all environmental permits are in place and that conditions of permit are maintained
  • Assure all environmental reporting is completed and submitted according to guidelines
  • Coordinate all aspects of resource use, pollution reduction, waste management, environmental health, and risk assessment and employee involvement
  • Audit and report on environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulatory agencies
  • Raise awareness at all levels of the organization of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice
  • Train staff at all levels on environmental issues and responsibilities


  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related disciplines; experience may be considered in lieu of formal education (3-5 years)
  • CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) certification is preferred
  • Must have strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to environmental safety
  • Must be capable of multi-tasking and working both as a team and independently
  • Must be well organized and have a strong attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate courtesy, tact, and confidentiality when dealing with customers (internal and external)
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication and be able to communicate with people in various positions and levels within the company
  • Must have strong interpersonal, coaching, and training skills
  • Must be able to research and interpret environmental regulations
  • Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Must be willing to travel on an as-needed basis
