Human Resources Generalist Position Available – South Boston, VA

RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

We are currently seeking an Human Resources Generalist for our South Boston, VA facility. This position is responsible for recruiting plant workers, on-boarding new employees and guiding them through the company benefits, and handling employee relations.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Manage the recruiting function for plant positions, including internal and external job postings and placements
  • Recruit and interview potential applicants on experience, skills, and education and utilize current and locally successful recruitment methods
  • Contact applicant references and perform background checks required by company
  • Track applicant flow data and prepare EEO-1 and VETS-100 reports for several domestic facilities
  • Organize and conduct new employee orientation, on-boarding, and site training programs
  • Maintain, confidentially, employee records, and paperwork
  • Represent employer in community and recruiting events
  • Update job requirements when needed
  • Assist in investigating employees complaints and being a resource to employee questions
  • Coordinate site employee events, such as the picnic and holiday celebrations
  • Ensure proper employee communications on Human Resource related items
  • Administer and assist in entering site timekeeping
  • Conduct and/or participate in site safety meetings and programs
  • Assist as needed in filing site workers compensation claims
  • Assist with Human Resources policy and project development


  • 1-3 years human resources experience required
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Must have a general knowledge of employment laws and best practices
  • Must be capable of multi-tasking and working both as a team and independently
  • Must be well organized and have a strong attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate courtesy, tact, and confidentiality when dealing with customers (internal and external)
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication
  • Must be able to communicate with people in various positions and levels within the company
  • Must have strong interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Must be able to research and interpret employment regulations
  • Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Must be willing to travel on an as-needed basis
