Maintenance Technician – 3rd Shift Position Available – South Boston, VA

RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Technician for 3rd shift (11:00pm-7:00am) at our South Boston, VA facility. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for completing repairs, performing preventative maintenance, installing new equipment, and troubleshooting emergency maintenance problems on all production lines. This includes routine maintenance and repair of plastic extruders, blenders, and other related equipment. The Maintenance Technician must also have a basic understanding of maintenance and be able to get to the root cause of equipment failures and initiate change. The individual must be flexible in order to accommodate and assist with general building maintenance repairs involving other RTP Company facilities.

Qualifications:
  • Two-year degree in Industrial Maintenance, Millwright, or similar and minimum of two years’ experience working in Industrial Maintenance
  • Prefer a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Maintenance experience required
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve with minimal supervision
  • Must be team oriented with excellent communication skills
  • Must have experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial equipment in a manufacturing facility
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of maintenance language, written and oral, shop arithmetic, elementary trigonometry, and physics
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Must have welding experience and be able to set up and effectively use gas, T.I.G. and arc welders
  • Demonstrates knowledge of metals and various electrode properties and their combination results
  • Ability to follow equipment manuals and drawings to adjust, align, replace, or repair machinery and keep records such as work orders and test and maintenance reports
  • Effectively repairs, adjusts, tears down, and rebuilds to OEM specifications any equipment in the plant
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge and understanding of plant processes, equipment/machinery, plant utilities, and predictive and preventive maintenance programs
  • Must have a positive attitude, be dependable and flexible, have excellent attendance, and a strong work ethic
  • Constructs, assembles, and installs guards and repair equipment
  • Willing to work overtime
  • Must have safety awareness
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
