Maintenance Technician/Electrician 2nd Shift – South Boston, VA

RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Technician/Electrician for 2nd shift at our South Boston, VA plant. The position takes direction from the Maintenance Lead.


  • Repairing non-functioning equipment and installing new equipment
  • Responsible for the proper usage of general maintenance tools and equipment
  • Must have a basic understanding of maintenance, trouble shooting, and root cause equipment failures
  • Ability to properly use and operate welding equipment
  • Has the ability to initiate change


  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Prefer a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Maintenance experience required
  • Ability to work and solve problems with minimal supervision
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • Properly uses multimeters, recorders, pyrometers, grinders, sanders, pipe cutters, threaders, and hand/power tools
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate measuring equipment such as: micrometers, dial indicators, depth gauges, and other measuring tools
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of maintenance language; written and oral, shop arithmetic, elementary trigonometry and physics
  • Interprets prints, schematics of hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • Trouble shoots, determining failures, and developing root cause analysis
  • Effectively repairs, adjusts, tears down, and rebuilds to OEM specifications any equipment in the plant
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge and understanding of all plant processes, equipment/machinery, plant utilities, and predictive and preventive maintenance programs
  • Sets up and effectively uses gas, T.I.G., and arc welders
  • Constructs, assembles, and installs guards and repair equipment
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of metals and various electrode properties and their combination results
