Payroll Specialist – Winona, MN

RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

This position is responsible for accurate processing and recording of weekly payroll, providing timely and accurate financial information, and processing time exceptions.

The ideal candidate will exhibit the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Process and perform multi-state weekly payrolls and daily payroll department operations
  • Review, verify, and process timekeeping records
  • Partner with human resources on new hire set up, payroll changes, employee time-off monitoring, benefit changes, and terminations
  • Prepare and issue payroll checks/statements to employees
  • Collect banking information for direct deposit setup and initiate deposits on paydays
  • Process and monitor garnishment orders and other issues that impact payroll specifications
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports
  • Understand and ensure proper taxation of employer paid benefits and employee deductions
  • Process accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary (W-2, etc.)
  • Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities

  • Must have working knowledge of payroll best practices
  • Must have strong knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication and demonstrate courtesy and tact when dealing with people in various positions and levels within the company
  • Must demonstrate an exceptional level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Must be capable of multi-tasking and working both as a team and independently
  • Must be reliable, highly accurate, and have a strong attention to detail
  • Must be well organized and able to meet deadlines
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel

Education and Experience

  • High school/GED required; AA or BS in related field (Accounting, Business Admin, etc.) preferred
  • Must have 5+ years of experience processing multi-state payroll
  • Preferred experience in KRONOS Workforce Ready

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time as well as look at a computer screen
  • Occasional travel to other locations may be required
