Product Development Engineer (Flame Retardant) Position Available – Winona, MN

RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

Product Development Engineers at RTP Company provides a critical role within the company and to our customers. These engineers are technical resources for the development of RTP Company’s engineered thermoplastic compounds.

 Essential Duties:

  • Plan experimental work (using formal experimental design techniques when appropriate) and schedule, execute, and report results of that work
  • Author and maintain data sheets and formulation specifications
  • Field and respond to telephone calls and e-mails from customers, sales engineers, and application development engineers
  • Provide problem solving and troubleshooting support to customers and co-workers/li>
  • Participate in technical reviews, presentations and process trials at customer facilities
  • Stay informed of developing technologies and intellectual property relating to engineered thermoplastic compounds
  • Consult with co-workers and other experts within the industry to facilitate RTP’s ability to provide our customers with the best total solution for their application
  • Provide application development support to RTP Company’s Sales Force and customers
  • Evaluate and approve new raw materials
  • Train and teach other engineers and technicians


  • Bachelor’s degree in related science or engineering field or an equivalent combination of training and work related experience required
  • Strong organizational skills, familiarity with experimental design techniques, and statistical analysis required
  • Practical and common sense approach to processing/manufacturing required
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Must be proficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Outlook; must be adept at learning new software
  • Excellent problem solving skills
