Tool Room Technician – Orange, TX

RTP Company, headquartered in Winona, Minn., is a global compounder of custom engineered thermoplastics. The company has over 20 manufacturing plants located in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Singapore and China. RTP Company’s engineers develop customized thermoplastic compounds in over 60 different engineering resin systems for applications requiring color, conductive, elastomeric, flame retardant, high temperature, structural, and wear-resistant properties.

We are currently seeking a Tool Room Technician at our Orange, TX facility. The Tool Room Technician will work under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager. Duties include cleaning and inspecting process parts and review and requisition inventory for process parts, tools, and plant supplies. Other responsibilities include issuing and checking in tools for plant personnel and assisting electrical craft personnel as required. The qualified individual will have a desire to be part of a friendly team-focused facility and will have experience and a desire to work in a manufacturing setting.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Three to five years’ experience with Baker Perkins and Werner & Pfleiderer missing screw configurations and small tool repair
  • College experience or service/vocational/technical training in a related field preferred

  • ISO/TS 16949 Training
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Perform housekeeping as necessary to maintain sales work area
  • Complete work requests for each assignment when applicable
  • Work with shift Maintenance Technician as directed and work as Maintenance Technician as needed. Will serve as primary Maintenance Technician back up
  • Clean, visually inspect, and measure tolerances on compounder/extruder parts for wear and damage and set up mixer configurations
  • Issue and return tools, parts, and supplies to/from stores
  • Operates blade sharpener
  • Maintains and repairs electrical tools such as impacts, buffers, etc.
  • Maintain portable power tools and standard hand tools
  • Monitor inventory for plant and prepare requisitions to maintain inventory levels of tools and supplies on an as needed basis
  • Operate parts cleaning equipment safely
  • Tracks elements and die conditions, requisitions service and or spares as required, and turns in monthly inventory report to Maintenance Manager
  • Demonstrate adequate knowledge of standard practices and proficiency to operate power and hand tools used for three of the following trades: pipefitter, welder, electrician, plumber, carpenter, and millwright
  • Must recognize, retain, and protect confidential information, specifically with customer information pertaining to formulations, business relationships, and product characteristics, as well as proprietary compounding technology
  • Follow all plant rules, policies, and safety procedures
  • Attend plant safety meetings
  • Meet requirements to achieve and maintain certifications and accreditations, as they pertain to job
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Able to work rotating 8-12 hour shifts
  • May be subject to dirty work conditions that are not climate controlled, with occasional exposure to inclement weather
  • Must be able to stand, bend, walk, climb, and or load materials most of an assigned shift. Frequently bending, kneeling, crawling, and reaching are required to perform work under, over, and around structures/machinery
  • May be exposed to repetitive motion while performing tasks
  • Forklift and mechanical experience preferred
  • Must be able to safely lift, move, stack, or load up to 55 pounds frequently during assigned shift
  • Must have a respectful, positive, and friendly attitude
  • Be able to work independently but also foster a team environment
  • Be dependable and have excellent attendance and be safety focused
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and perform basic math
