  • Toughness
  • Dimensional stability

Limitations

  • Low heat deflection temperature
  • High smoke generation when burned

Overview

The glass reinforced styrene acrylonitrile offers improved chemical resistance, strength, creep resistance and weatherability over polystyrene.

The reinforced SAN approaches the tougher engineering thermoplastics in strength and other properties.

Tensile strength increases from 10,000 psi for the base resin to 17,000 psi for the 40% glass reinforced SAN. Modulus values are increased over 200% with reinforcement.

SAN materials have excellent resistance to aliphatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, various fats, oils and household detergents.
